The Timeless Spirit of Varanasi

The Timeless
Spirit of Varanasi

Varanasi, popularly known as Banaras or Kashi, is one of the world’s oldest living cities, situated on the banks of the sacred River Ganga. Revered as the spiritual seat of Vedic religion and philosophy, it remains one of the holiest pilgrimage destinations for Hindus.

From ancient ghats and timeless temples to narrow gullies, serene sunrises, and the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, Varanasi reflects a deep sense of spirituality, culture, and old-world charm. The Ganga, worshipped as a goddess, has nurtured civilisations along her banks for centuries, shaping Banaras into a city where history, faith, and everyday life flow together seamlessly.

Exploring the Spectacle of Varanasi

With Stay Banaras

The 8-kilometre stretch of the River Ganga in Varanasi is lined with 84 historic ghats and more than 300 temples, many of which were built after 1700 AD by Maratha rulers from the noble houses of the Scindias, Holkars, Bhonsles, and Peshwas. Among them, Dashashwamedh Ghat stands out for its evening Ganga Aarti, where rhythmic chants, glowing lamps, and devotional music create a deeply spiritual experience for visitors and devotees alike.
Other significant ghats, such as Panchganga, Manikarnika, and Lalita Ghat, hold immense religious and historical importance, each serving a distinct sacred purpose within the spiritual landscape of the city.
Our instinct to wander and explore has shaped human journeys across time. To support this instinct, Stay Banaras offers thoughtfully curated experiences that allow guests to engage with both the spiritual and cultural depth of the city.
